Mission statEment
In our version of the The Rocky Horror Picture Show, we hope to maintain the spirit of the original cult classic and pay homage to this culturally significant film, while updating elements of the show to keep relevant to a modern audience.Historically, this show walks the line between sensitivity and free expression. We believe in the importance of spaces where people can explore all of their weird weirdness and express their thoughts and feelings in a healthy and respectful way. We hope to foster an environment of self-awareness and love, and build a community that’s in on the joke; not attract people who will exploit it to be hateful.
HAtE sPEEch
There is currently a lot of debate over when and where certain things can and cannot be said. The Rocky Horror Picture Show finds its roots in satire and counter-culture, and to honor that we have a 100% free speech policy. We want our space to be a place where people can feel free to say whatever the fuck they want. However, there is a huge difference between humor and hate speech, so we want to make it clear that if you’re using our show as a place to express hate, we will ask you to leave immediately. How to identify a hater:
- Someone is targeting exclusively one group specifically
- Someone is targeting an individual
- Someone is only participating in jokes targeting one group in particular
If you think you see someone acting inappropriately, report it to a staff member immediately!
18+ material
Please be aware that Rocky Horror incorporates raunchy themes, including mature and offensive language, sexual references, and more skin than you may be used to (unless you’re a cannibal). These themes are tenfold in live shadowcast productions. If you are likely to be offended or uncomfortable by this, we totally understand if you need to sit this one out.photo/video
Unlike most theatre productions, Midnight Misfits encourages you to take as many photos and videos as you’d like - whether of yourselves looking hotter than hell, your friends trying the Time Warp, or our cast who loves the spotlight, pull those cameras out! Just don’t be greedy - share and tag us at @midnightmisfitsnjcoNsEnt
Everyone has full right to not be touched withoutconsent. Verbal consent is mandatory in all situations.
If you touch anyone without their consent, we will ask you to leave immediately. Everyone always has this right, whether it be yourself, another audience member, or a cast member.Report creepers to staff immediately. If you get groped or harrassed at an event, please tell someone. You are not being dramatic. Regardless of your personal tolerance level for physical touch, there are other people at the event whose night may be ruined by unwanted touch. It’s everyone’s social responsibility to keep each other safe, audience, cast and crew members alike.
virgins!
If you’ve never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show live before, congratulations! You’re a Virgin...and there’s nothing we love more. In fact, we mark Virgins with a red ‘V’ on their forehead upon entry, but feel free to sneak past if you’re uncomfortable. All Virgins will be initiated into the Rocky Horror family in our own special way, if you dare.clothing
Come as you are and wear what you’d like - jeans, your mom’s shirt from high school, Rocky Horror cosplay, but we do love seeing Magentas and Columbias in the audience!particiPation
Audience engagement is the heart and soul of the live Rocky Horror Picture Show experience. Please note that actors will at times enter the audience and interact with you, especially if you are sitting in the aisles. Audience props and callback lines are highly encouraged and our crew will be selling prop bags at the show.bANNED PRoP LIst
We know that traditionally, the audience dresses up and brings props for the show. We encourage people to participate in the show and show up in whatever wacky outfits they want, however, we need to respect both our actors and the lovely theater that hosts us. In order to do that, we ask you do not bring any food items or items that cause a large mess.If you want to make sure you’re not using banned props, we have goodie bags available for purchase at our merch table, or if you plan to bring your own props from home, make sure to read the banned props list:
